Assistant Professor in Political Science

Shilpa S.P. Singh joined this institution in June 2019. She did her Masters in Political Science, securing First Rank and an Award for the Highest Marks from Goa University in 2010. She cleared her All India UGC NET Examination in Political Science in first attempt itself. She has also cleared UGC JRF in Political Science in December 2013, securing the highest percentage marks all over India. She is currently pursuing her PhD (Final stages) on “Redefining Redistribution and Bargaining: A study Interface of Development and Democracy” from Goa University.

She has 4 years of teaching experience at Post Graduate Level at the Department of Political Science, Goa University and 3 years of teaching experience at under-graduate level. Her Area of Interest and Research includes Political Theory, Political Economy, International Politics and Gender Studies. She has 5 Publications to her credit so far, 3 in Research Journals and 2 Book Chapters. She is currently working on 4 more Publications which will be published shortly. She has presented over 18 Research paper presentations at various International, National and State Level Seminars.
Ms. Singh has been an active participant in the following events and workshops:

1. Residential Summer School on ‘Epistemes for conceptualising the contemporary’ organised by South Asian University, New Delhi and Rosa Luxembourg Stiftung, Delhi at Ramnagar, in June 2018.

2. Workshop on Post Poll Survey on Goa Elections 2017 organized by CSDS Delhi and Department of Political Science, Goa University, and submitted a Chapter titled as “Capital, Class and Identity: Deconstructing Popular Mobilization in Goa” for the CSDS Post Poll Survey Report on Goa Elections 2017.

3. Three-day Seminar on “Karl Marx: Unity of Theory and Practice – Contours of Changing the World” in December 2018, organized by Social Sciences Trust, affiliated to CPI Vijayawada; and delivered a Lecture on “Karl Marx and Women’s Question”.

4. Resource Person at CES College of Arts and Commerce, Cuncolim to deliver Lecture on “Preparations of Competitive Exam” in August 2019.

She has also worked in different contemporary roles as follows:

1. Mentor for Subject of Political Science and International Studies for Net Mentoring Classes of Directorate of Higher Education, Goa Government.

2. Co-Coordinator of Election Commission of India’s “Knowledge, Attitude, Behavior, Belief and Practices (KABP) Survey” for ascertaining voter’s awareness and turnout for Goa Assembly Elections 2017 by Department of Political Science, Goa University.

3. Co-ordinator of One-day programme ‘Human Rights Awareness and Sensitization Programme for the Youth’ in January 2014 at Goa Science Centre, Miramar, organized by Dhempe College of Arts and Science in collaboration with National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) New-Delhi.
