NSS Report 2020-211. NSS Inaugural Programme – 17th October 2020.
Online NSS Orientation was held this year for the newly enrolled students of FYBALLB on 17th October 2020 at 12 p.m. The orientation was jointly conducted by the NSS Programme Officer in Charge Ms. Meghana Kapdi and Asst. P. O. Priyanka Parab. A total 32 students who are enrolled for the A. Y 2020-21 attended the session and the group leaders were chosen at the end of the session. Through orientation, Students were told about the importance of being an NSS volunteer, its motto and how they were supposed to serve the society.
2. International Yoga Day – 21st June 2020
To commemorate the significance of International Yoga Day observed on June 21st, the NSS unit of V. M. Salgaocar College of Law observed the same with online activities due to Covid19 restrictions. The NSS Volunteers performed the yoga asanas along with their family members. They also made presentations and posters which were viewed online.
3. Independence Day Celebration – 15th August 2020
The NSS Unit of V.M.Salgaocar College of Law celebrated the 74th Independence Day of 15th
August 2020 along with the staff. The Independence Day was celebrated by hoisting the tri-coloured Indian flag which was done by the Principal, Dr. M.R.K.Prasad. Considering the Pandemic situation, the NSS Volunteers participated online in the said celebration. The programme ended with the National Anthem.
4. Fit India Programme Report
Fit India Movement is a nationwide campaign that aims at encouraging people to include physical activities and sports in their everyday lives, to pave the way for healthier and fit lifestyles. In times of Covid pandemic Fitness became an even more important aspect of life, the activities of Fit India Movement were organized online.In compliance with this movement, VM Salgaocar College of Law Miramar Panaji Goa actively participated and supported this initiative by strictly considering and adhering to Covid norms. In order to continue the fitness movement and to encourage students the importance of fitness in daily lifestyle the NSS Cell of VM Salgaocar College of Law organized online activities wherein NSS volunteers excitedly participated in large numbers. One of the activities of the Fitness movement, The Fit India Campaign -Virtual Promotion. The activity included promotion of the Fit India Movement on digital platforms by the NSS volunteers, wherein a 10 second fitness video was posted on their social media accounts. Volunteers posted a 10 second video on Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp with an aim to reach out to people and promote the importance of fitness and to bring about a fitness revolution.
5. The Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Celebration – 31st October 2020
The Rashtriya Ekta Diwas was celebrated in V. M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar Goa on 31st October 2020 at 10 a. m. in the college conference Hall. The day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. On this occasion the Ekta pledge was taken by the faculty of the college as well as the NSS Students who took the pledge online. The Pledge was administered to the faculty and NSS Students together by NSS In Charge Meghana Kapdi and NSS PO Priyanka Parab respectively.
6. NSS Volunteers Taking The Online Covid Pledge
Covid pledge: A pledge was taken by all the NSS volunteers on 21st October 2020.the pledge signified that being responsible NSS Volunteers appropriate behaviour during the Covid times would be observed. An E- Certificate for the same was given to all the students who took the pledge.
7. Constitution Day Celebration 26th November 2020.
The Constitution Day was celebrated in V. M. Salgaocar College of Law, Miramar Goa on 26th November 2020 at 11 am in the college. The day is celebrated to commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution. On this occasion the Preamble was read by the NSS Students online along with the Prime Minister of India. NSS In Charge Meghana Kapdi and NSS PO Priyanka Parab also read the pledge to the volunteers. An online class awareness talk was held for the First years, Second Years, Third Years and the Fourth-Year students wherein the NSS students spoke on Article 51 A that is the Fundamental Duties. They spoke about what the article stands for and its importance for the citizens of India. An Essay competition was also held on this occasion on the theme” Relevance of Indian Constitution in Todays India”. About 20 students participated in this competition. The entries were judged and first three best entries were given certificates. The entries were judged by Prof. Pearl Monteiro and Prof Aamod Shirali.

8. Liberation Day Celebration – 19th December 2020.
Goa was liberated from the clutches of the Portuguese on 19th December 1961. NSS Unit of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law celebrated Goa Liberation Day with a lot of enthusiasm. The celebrations started with Principal Dr. Shabir Ali unfurling the national flag in the college campus at 8.45 a.m. Considering the Pandemic situation this year the Liberation Day Programme was attended by the faculty members and around 150 NSS volunteers attended the programme online through Google Meet link. The faculty sang the national anthem after which they were assembled in the college conference hall. The Programme was followed by a speech by Dr. Shabir Ali, wherein he highlighted on maintaining Goa’s unique identity of being one even with diversified culture and religions.
9. Republic Day – 26th January 2021
V. M. Salgaocar College of Law celebrated with great pride and enthusiasm, the 72nd Republic Day on 26th January 2021. Considering the pandemic, the programme was physically attended by the Faculty members and around 50 NSS volunteers witnessed the programme online through Google meet. The Programme started at 8.45 am. Principal Dr. Shabeer Ali hoisted the National Flag followed by singing of the National Anthem. A Tree Plantation Drive was also organised after the Republic Day Programme, wherein various medicinal plants were planted in the college campus.
10. Observance of the International Yoga Day on 21st June 2021
To commemorate the significance of International Yoga Day observed on June 21st, the NSS unit of V. M. Salgaocar College of Law observed the same with online activities due to Covid 19 restrictions. The NSS Volunteers performed the yoga asanas. They also made the presentations and posters which was viewed online. The faculty too under the guidance of Shri. Dynaneshwar Pednekar, Administrator of the college performed the yoga asanas and the Surya namaskars.
11. Celebration Of Van-Mohotsav – 7th July 2021.
The Teaching and the Administrative staff of the V.M.Salgaocar College of Law celebrated Van-Mahotsav’ Day on 7th July 2021 in the college premises. The objective was to contribute in a minor but significant way towards a green environment. On this occasion Principal Dr. Shabir Ali gave a brief speech on the importance of having a green and clean environment. He brought to fore the problems confronting human beings due to large scale deforestation and cutting of trees on the pretext of development. He highlighted sustainability measures that can be adopted on an individual basis and how we can contribute in making our surrounding green and pollution free by planting saplings and nurturing it on a daily basis. On this occasion the administrator along with the Principal and staff of college and the administrative staff planted the tree saplings of different kinds. Different fruit bearing tree saplings like mangoes of different varieties including Mankurad, a chikoo sapling as well as lemon were planted. Medicinal plants like Insulin, Hadjod, Manpatri, Ashwagandha, Tulsi, Shatavari, Turmeric and Aloe Vera were planted too.
A special plot of land on the premises was kept for horticulture plants. Here the plantation was done by the members of the horticulture team. The initiative was taken by Mr. Lavu Govekar along with Anant Mandrekar and Ramakant Naik. Vegetables like Okra (Ladies finger), Ridge Gourd, Cucumber, Pumpkin and bottle gourd were planted by them. The saplings were also distributed among the teaching and non-teaching staff present on the occasion. The vote of thanks was given by the NSS P.O. Ms. Meghana Kapdi.
