1. NSS Inaugural Programme – 1st August 2019

The NSS unit inaugural programme for the academic year 2019-20 was organized on 1st of August at the College Conference Hall. The Unit decided to proceed with its programme by creating environmental awareness among the volunteers. Shri Paresh Parab, Range Forest Officer, Bhagwan Mahavir Sanctuary was invited as the chief guest for the function. Principal Dr. M R. K. Prasad, in his welcome address stated that the institute provides a blend of social legal community service to the needy. He said that the college is known for its legal aid provision on the one hand, and it also vouches to provide community service through NSS to the masses.

Asst. Prof. Danica Menezes (NSS In-charge) introduced the chief guest while Asst. Prof. Meghana Kapdi (NSS Programme Officer) delivered the NSS oath to the NSS volunteers. Addressing the forum, the Chief Guest Shri Prakash Parab mentioned that the NSS motto “not me but you” inspires the young minds to strive towards serving the community in the interest of the Nation as a whole, which should always be a priority for the youth of today. The Chief Guest also spoke about the importance of wild life conservation and how important it is for everyone to value it.
The Overall Girl Student In-Charge of the Unit, Miss Shivani Nadkarni, presented the NSS report of the preceding year 2018- 2019. The Boy Student In-Charge of the Unit, Adnan Sheikh proposed the vote of thanks. The function ended with Van Mohatsav at the hands of Shri Paresh Parab, Principal Dr M.R.K Prasad, Administrator Shri Dyaneshwar Pednekar and Dr. Prof K. Shrinivasa Rao in the presence of NSS In-Charges and the NSS volunteers.

2. International Yoga Day

To commemorate the significance of International Yoga day observed on June 21st, the college scheduled a programme on 21st June, 2019 in the college conference hall. The programme was attended by the students, which also comprised of the NSS volunteers and the teaching faculty of the college. The gathering was addressed regarding the concept and relevance of yoga which is an art of practicing the physical and mental discipline to attain a peaceful mind, soul and body. Various basic asanas including pranayama and kapalbhati were explained and demonstrated by Asst. Prof. Aamod Shirali to the gathering. Physical Education Director, Dr. Mandrekar, and Prof. Dr. Naguesh Colvalkar were also present. The duration of the programme was of one hour which commenced at 8.50 in the college Conference Hall. The students and the faculty present sincerely followed the instructions and practiced the asanas.

3. Independence Day Celebration 2019

The NSS Unit of V. M. Salgaocar College of Law celebrated the 73rd Independence Day of 15th August 2019 along with the staff and other students. The Independence Day was celebrated by hoisting the tricoloured Indian flag which was done by the Principal, Dr. M.R.K. Prasad. The NSS volunteers of S.Y.B.A.LL.B presented a beautiful Cultural Programme to commemorate the contribution of the Freedom Fighters. The programme included a patriotic song, a quiz on Mahatma Gandhi and Article 370, a musical mash up, a patriotic dance and a skit representing Mahatma Gandhi’s dedication towards the Indian Freedom Struggle. The programme ended with an instrumental tribute to the National Anthem.

4. Report on Swachata Pakhwada

The NSS unit of V. M. Salgaoncar College of Law organized various activities to commemorate the swachata drive adopted by the Indian Government for many years. To begin with Swachata Week, the NSS Student volunteers of Third Year and Fourth Year B.A. LL.B. took the oath of keeping their surroundings clean. Further, the NSS volunteers made paper bags and distributed the same across many cities and villages in the State of Goa to vendors selling goods. This was done in order to bring the sense of responsibility towards the citizens of the State that use of plastic damages the environment and will cause major concerns in the future if not stopped now. Keeping this objective in mind the NSS volunteers distributed handmade paper bags to the vendors so that they could use them to distribute their goods rather than use plastic. The NSS volunteers also gave an awareness talk in general public places making the public aware about the importance of cleanliness not only in their homes but also why it is important to keep their neighborhood clean, and public places clean. Some of the volunteers collaborated with the College Legal aid cells and organized an awareness talk for the people. The awareness talk included the message of “Swachata Abhiyan” and made the people aware of the growing garbage issues in the State of Goa and how each one is responsible to reduce this problem. The students also spoke about how to segregate wet and dry garbage at home and how to use wet garbage as manure for plants rather than disposing of it in the open.

5. FIT India Programme Report

Fit India Programme was celebrated by V. M. Salgaocar College of Law along with its NSS Unit. The Fit India Programme was celebrated in response to the Prime Minister of India’s call of having a Fit and Healthy Nation. The total Number of NSS Volunteers that participated were 60 out of which 25 were female students whereas 35 were male students. The activities undertaken were: Run for Fit India Movement, taking the Oath and other sports activities.

6. Rakhi Sale: (10th August -13th August)

With the motive of fund raising for charity and as a part of social service initiative the volunteers of 3rd year and 4th year B. A. LL.B sold more than 400 Rakhis in the college that were made by special children on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The funds collected were given to Peace Heaven School, Caranzalem.

7. Tie a Rakhi – Gratitude to Our Fire Fighters

The NSS volunteers tied rakhis to the Fire Fighter Personel to show our gratitude towards the unending work they do towards the society and to recognize their efforts to keep the society safe.

8. Blood Donation Camp

A Blood Donation Drive was organised by V.M. Salgaocar College of Law in collaboration with HDFC Bank and Goa Medical College, Bambolim, on 05th December 2019 in the College Conference Hall. The drive was open to all the students and faculty. The doctors and health workers from Goa Medical College Bambolim were present with the medical equipment. There was a great deal of enthusiasm among the NSS volunteers and other students during the drive. The donation started sharp at 10.00 a.m. Teaching Faculty, Non-Teaching Staff as well as students donated blood.

9. FIRE SAFETY LECTURE AND DEMONSTRATION

NSS Unit of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law organized a Fire Safety talk and a mock demonstration for the NSS volunteers on the 27th November 2019, in the College premises. The objective of conducting this lecture and mock demonstration was to make the students aware of how to handle a fire calamity and how to prevent the same.

10. Liberation Day Celebration

Goa was liberated from the clutches of the Portuguese on 19th December 1961. NSS Unit of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law celebrated Goa Liberation Day with a lot of enthusiasm. The celebrations started with Principal Dr. M.R K. Prasad unfurling the national flag in the college campus at 8.30 a.m. The faculty and students sang the national anthem after which they were assembled in the College Conference Hall. NSS volunteers of F.Y.B.A. LL.B. organized a wonderful programme. Miss. Smriti compared the event. It started with a patriotic song sung by a group of students. Followed by a thought provoking speech by Prof. Dr. K.S. Rao, Head of the Department. He stressed on maintaining Goa’s unique identity of being one, even with diverse cultures and religions. Students performed the Goan Folk dance called ‘Dekhni’ showcasing Goan culture. Mr. Amey Varerkar recited a patriotic poem which was well appreciated by the audience.

11. NSS Volunteers attend the Late Manohar Parrikar Memorial Lecture

25 NSS Volunteers attended a Memorial Lecture named after the Late Manohar Parrikar, on 12th and 13th December 2019.

12. NSS Volunteers Celebrating National Voters Day

NSS Student Volunteers celebrated the National Voters Day on 24th January 2020. The Voters Day was celebrated by taking an oath and by attending a Lecture at Kala Academy, Campal, Goa.

13. Republic Day

Republic Day was celebrated in the College Campus on 26th January, 2020 at 8.30 a.m. The third year and fourth year students curated a cultural programme for the Republic Day. The Students presented a patriotic song, a Quiz on the Constitution of India, and a Fashion Show depicting the cultual diversity of India.

14. Constitution Day Rally

The NSS student Volunteers participated in the Constitution Rally conducted on 21st December 2019.

15. Visit to Asha Mahal

The NSS unit of V. M. Salgaocar College of Law organized a visit to Asha Mahal on 12th March 2020. The objective of organizing this visit was to make the Volunteers sensitive towards community outreach and how we can touch the lives of few by conducting an act of giving, caring and sharing happiness.
