Research Policy
As the leading Research Centre in Law in the State of Goa, V. M. Salgaocar College of Law has adopted a research facilitation policy with a view to foster an environment conducive for research by its faculty and students. For this purpose, the College encourages innovation and the undertaking of research projects on contemporary socio-legal issues by providing state –of the art facilities and support for legal research.
The College is a recognized Research Centre for the award of Doctorate in Philosophy and the Masters in Law Programme conducted by the Goa University. It serves as the coordinating body for internally and externally sponsored research projects at the College. Information regarding the availability of research grants and funding agencies for research is communicated to both faculty and students from time to time.
Being a pioneer in clinical legal education in the State, the College annually conducts national and international conferences, seminars, workshops and training programmes and organizes guest lectures by experts in the legal profession, academia and others to update students and faculty on recent trends and developments in the law.
The College also has its own annual peer-reviewed Salgaocar Law Review publication with ISSN number promoting intellectual debate on a broad spectrum of contemporary legal issues and challenges.
The VM Salgaocar College of Law Research Policy is formulated to encourage a positive and vibrant environment for research among faculty and students in the College recognized as a Research Centre for Law.
Objectives:
To provide an environment that facilitates research as well as ensures the required support through research framework and guidelines.
To enable the Research Centre to develop into a Centre for Excellence in Legal Research.
In order to encourage and motivate faculty members and law students to undertake quality research, the College provides support through the following policy:
Communication Regarding Research Avenues
In addition to their teaching responsibilities, members of faculty are encouraged to undertake research leading to quality publications and presentations at National/International conferences. Information regarding upcoming conferences, seminars /workshops /symposia is communicated to the faculty by circulation of brochures or the necessary information through and emails /Whats app messages.
Seed Money
Every academic year, seed money of Rs.50,000/- is set aside every academic year for promoting research among the faculty.
Student Research
To ensure quality research by students, students are provided Research Supervisors who guide their students in their research work as a part of the LLM programme.
Reimbursement of Travel Expenses
For ensuring their professional development and growth, the College reimburses expenses of travel and registration fee of faculty members who attend and participate in national /state level law conferences or seminars.
Incentives to Faculty
Appreciation is provided at the faculty meeting to faculty members who bring research grants from external funding agencies.
Grant of Leaves
Study leave for a maximum period of three years to pursue a special line of study or research directly related to his or her work.
Sabbatical leave for undertaking study/ research or other academic pursuit solely for the object of increasing their proficiency may be granted for a maximum period of one year at a time.
Grant of Faculty Development Program of the UGC for pursuing MPhil or Ph.D. for a period of two years on the fulfillment of certain conditions as stipulated under the UGC Guidelines.
