Research & Development

Dissemination of legal knowledge and enabling the student to apply such knowledge to resolve the conflict is the essence of Legal Education. Equally important is the creation of knowledge and innovation for the advancement of justice. The Research and Development at VMSCL blend the traditional doctrinal research with empirical research in the legal field to bring innovation in improving access to justice.

The fundamental objective of R&D is to create and nurture an ecosystem to foster a culture of inquiry and critical thinking at VMSCL. The R&D encourages all the stakeholders to meaningfully engage in contemporary socio-legal issues through projects, conferences, workshops and legal aid clinics. The R&D also promotes collaborations with the BAR, Bench, Civil Society Organisations, Government and the community in bringing desired legal reforms. It also strives to integrate the action research with teaching and community engagement.

  3. To facilitate national and international academic exchange programmes for faculty, researchers, and students. 
  4. To organise national and international conferences, seminars, workshops, training programmes, and capacity-building. 
  5. To strengthen institutional research capabilities and infrastructure and create an ecosystem to promote interdisciplinary research. 
  6. To cultivate ecosystem to promote research-oriented academic culture and provide economic and academic incentives to support research and publication in reputed journals, books, and digital platforms.

V. M. Salgaocar College of Law initiated the first issue of Salgaocar Law Journal in 2015 as part of its vision of ‘Excellence in legal Education in Pursuit of Justice and Service to Humanity’. SLR is an annual publication of the college aimed to promote research and to encourage free interchange of original thoughts among legal academia including academicians, lawyers and research students. The journal accepts research papers, Case Comments, Legislative Comments, Book Reviews, and essays with multidisciplinary approach. The journal is double blind peer reviewed, and is ISSN indexed (ISSN 2395-7263). The purpose of the publication is to encourage quality legal research and intellectual perceptions and continuing deliberations on a broad spectrum of contemporary legal issues.
