About The College

Devi Sharvani Education Society was founded by Late Mr. V. M. Salgaocar, an industrialist and philanthropist of Goa in the year 1972 and is registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860. Mahadevrao Salgaocar College of Law was established in the year 1973 with a generous donation from the founder, Late Mr. V. M. Salgaocar, who named the college in the memory of his father Late Mr. Mahadevrao Salgaocar. The College was started with the view to meet the long-felt need of the people of Goa for Legal Education. In the year 1997, as per the decision of the Governing Council, the name of the College was changed to V.M. Salgaocar College of Law (VMSCL).

The College is situated on a spacious plot of land at Miramar with an edifice of 2525.72 m2 with an adjoining Library building of 2379.93 m2 . There are a sufficient number of classrooms which are spacious, well-ventilated and well-lit, and which are also air-conditioned. Provision has been made of LCD projectors & internet connections in each and every classroom. The College also has three air-conditioned Staff Rooms, a well-resourced Moot Court Room, a big air-conditioned Conference Hall, a Governing Council Room, a Child Rights Clinic Room, a spacious Canteen, a well-equipped Gymnasium, a separate Book Bank and other facilities. The college has an independent three-storied library named the ‘HIRABAI V. SALGAOCAR LIBRARY’ which is 3 well-equipped including online legal databases and a digital library. It is the third largest library in Asia. The library hosts a unique collection of rare reports. The College Library is fully automated and computerized with open access system. Besides a vast collection of law books, there are also books that cater to diverse interests. Online e-journals, AIR manuals and CDs with multiple user facilities are made available. Over five lakh pages of rare journals are digitized.
