CENTRE FOR RIGHTS OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (CRPD)
The V. M. Salgaocar College of Law inaugurated its Centre for Rights of Persons with Disabilities on 6th February 2019. The inauguration was done by Shri. Ashok Agarwal, Member Secretary, National Legal Service Authority, New Delhi. Since then, the Centre has been actively involved in activities to promote rights of persons with disabilities (PWD). The Centre is coordinated by a Director and Associate Director who are members of faculty along with selected student members.
The Centre serves as a vital resource for promotion of rights of PWD by focusing on inclusion, accessibility and empowerment through sensitization and legal assistance.
Objectives of CRPD
- To train student members to raise awareness about the rights of PWD, empowering them to become effective advocates within their communities.
- To provides practical knowledge through first-hand experience by working with various government departments and lawyers.
- To sensitize the public to the challenges and rights of PWD, promoting understanding and empathy.
- To research on the existing laws governing PWD and their implementation, ensuring that we have a solid foundation of knowledge to drive a meaningful change.
- To assist PWD in accessing welfare schemes and legal benefits, bridging the gap between policy and practice.
- To contribute to a more informed, supportive, and inclusive environment for all persons with disabilities.
