The ADR Board was initiated with the aim of inculcating among law students, the amicable settlement approach rather than the adversarial approach towards the client’s issues. The students are expected to learn the purpose, skill and techniques of the alternative dispute resolution methods like Negotiation, Mediation, Conciliation, etc. The membership of the board is the outcome of a rigorous screening procedure from amongst the numerous interested students. The Members once selected, are trained in the ADR techniques through orientation and experience sharing sessions. These members represent the college in various National as well as International ADR competitions. The Board also conducts client counseling orientations and training for the competitions. This year the members of the Board have made us proud by winning the most prestigious Competitions, National as well as International. The Board is also instrumental in hosting ‘Lex Infinitum’, the International Dispute Resolution Competition every year.

Selection to ADR Board:

The members of the Board are selected each year through a rigorous screening procedure which requires them to participate in a negotiation session with other participants. This year the selection rounds were held on 25th July 2019.

Notice and Registration:
Notice was issued on 6-07-2019 announcing the selection rounds dates and seeking registration from the interested students. The selection rounds were open for all the classes except the F.Y.B.A. LL.B. Total of 103 students registered for the selection rounds

Problem for Selection:
The problem for the Selection round was uploaded on the College Website and students WhatsApp group. State of Kandva and Go Green Corporation. The students were also informed about the judging criterion on basis of which they had to make the preparation.

Exemption:
There were 10 students from the previous Academic year who were members of the ADR Board and had won prizes, who were exempted from selection rounds this year. They were directly inducted in the board based on their previous performance. The following members of the ADR Board of the previous academic year were exempted from the selection process and were continued as qualified members of the Board for 2018-19.
(i) Those who had qualified to the semi final round at any National ADR competition or
(ii) Those who had qualified from the preliminary round to the next level, at any International ADR competition.

Training for Selection:
Training for the students who registered for selection rounds was conducted on 20-07-2019 by Dr. B .S. Patil. The students were trained about the process of negotiation, its types and the format of the selection. This was followed by a demo session conducted by the previous members and explained by Dr. B. S. Patil.

Selection Round:
Selection round was held on 25th July 2019 in which 97 students participated. There were total of seven rounds conducted from 8.45 to 12.35 p.m. These rounds were conducted in 8 chambers.
Judges for the selection round were Dr. M.R.K Prasad, Dr. Shaber Ali G., Dr. Kim Couto, Dr. K.S. Rao, Dr. B.S.Patil, Dr. Sandhya Ram, Ms. Pearl Monteiro & Ms. Bhakti Naik, Total of 45 students were selected and with 10 exempted, the total number of ADR members was 55.

Orientation for selected students:

The orientation for the members selected to the ADR Board was conducted on 14th August, 2019 by Dr. Mrunmayi M. Vaidya and Prof. Priyanka Shet. All the members attended the meeting. The students were briefed about the ADR Board policy as well as the budget provision for ADR Board. They were informed about the ADR Competitions and a list of upcoming events was prepared. The members opted for the different competitions to be held for their consideration as team members whenever the competition invite is received. They were also encouraged about publications in different ADR related journals and it was decided to conduct sessions on relevant topics.

Felicitation of CDRC Vienna Team:

A programme was held at the College to felicitate the Winners of the CDRC Competition, Vienna on 04-10-2019. The coach of the team Dr. B. S. Patil was also felicitated. The President of the Devi Sharvani Education Society Shri. Dattaraj Salgaocar presided over the function and announced a prize money of Rs.25000/- each for both the participants. The students also formed a WhatsApp group to communicate regarding ADR activities.

Client Counseling Orientation:

On 29-11-2019 client counseling orientation was conducted by Dr. B. S. Patil to train the ADR members for preparation for client counseling competition. Insights were given as to the concept of counseling and the skills involved in counseling a client, the process for the same and Do’s and Don’t’s.

Mock Sessions:

The students representing the college underwent rigorous training through mock sessions. They grouped with other members of the ADR Board for the purpose of practice and understanding various perspective on the problems. The faculty attended the mocks. Faculty as well as the other member observers used to give their feedback at the end of the mock session. Students represented the college in 16 events and won 4 awards.

Negotiation Practical Exam:

The ADR Board with the assistance of the members conducted the negotiation practical exam on 03-06-2020 for the Vth year of B.A. LL.B and T.Y. B.A. LL.B.

Problem release:
Problems were released on 23-02-2020 through the website as well as the student’s class WhatsApp group. The problem was titled “Hot potatoes in the farm” and “Water is magic: Price it fairly.” Each student was required to appear for both the problems. Students were also informed about the assessment criterion.

Orientation:
The orientation was given by Dr.MRK Prasad and Dr. B. S. Patil. This was followed by a demo session. The demo session gave an idea to the students of the process of negotiation.

The practical exam:
The negotiation exam on 03-03-2020 was held in 12 classrooms. There were 20 faculty assessing the students. There were 3 students in each team. The rounds were conducted from 8.45 to 12.30 p.m. There were 4 CI’s generated for each problem. The students were assessed by the faculty on basis of their negotiation session performance as well as the written submission they were instructed to make of summary of each session.
