LITERARY CLUB 2020-21

(a) Online Session On Enhancing Creative Writing Skills

The Literary Club of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law has been initiated in the academic year 2020-21 with the aim of providing students of the college a platform for building, developing and sharpening their literary skills. The Club plans to enrol up to 15 members who would be actively engaged in the task of strengthening their literary skills through various means. One Student would be elected as the Secretary of the Club. The Club plans to meet once a month to promote interaction and sharing of creative literary ideas amongst its members. For the Academic year 2020-21, the Club plans to conduct sessions for its members on poetry writing, short story writing, essay writing and book reviews. The Club also plans to conduct literary based competitions such as literary quiz in the course of time. Initially the Club would conduct its activities through the online mode and once physical classes resume, the same would be conducted through the physical mode. The endeavour of the Club would be to progressively build the leadership capacity of the students by encouraging literary creativity.

The Literary Club of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law conducted an online session on the theme ‘Enhancing Creative Writing Skills’ on 17th Oct, 2020 (Saturday) from 11 am to 12 noon for the students of F.Y.B.A.L.L.B. The Resource Person for the session was Ms. Priya Almeida, Internationally Accredited Career Consultant, Language and Wellness Coach, Professional in Communication Skills, Trinity College, London. Ms. Priya Almeida explained the essentials of creative writing with a focus on short-story writing and poetry writing. She also addressed the queries of the students related to creative writing. The session was attended by 92 students of F.Y.B.A.L.L.B. The session was an enriching experience for students as they gained insightful knowledge into the essentials of creative writing. The session was coordinated by Assistant Professor, Dr Sara Mahima George (Literary Club Faculty In Charge).

(b) Webinar on ‘the Essentials Of A Book-review

The Literary Club of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law organized a webinar on the theme ‘The Essentials of a Book-Review’ on 17th April, 2021, at 12.15 noon. The Resource Person for the webinar was Ms. Jollaine De Souza, Faculty of English at Carmel College for Arts, Science and Commerce for Women, Nuvem-Goa.

Ms Jollaine De Souza gave valuable insights into the crucial aspects which have to be borne in mind while reading and reviewing a book such as its correlation to any current debate or trend in the field, its comparison to other books in the field and the relationship of the book with larger issues. She recommended that the review of any book ought to be concluded with a rating scale such as points or stars. She also addressed the queries of the students relating to various aspects of book reviewing.

The webinar was attended by 31 participants which included faculty and students of the college. The webinar was co-ordinated by the Faculty in charge of the Literary Club, Asst. Professor Dr. Sara Mahima George under the guidance of the Principal Dr. G. Shaber Ali, Dr. Kim Couto and the IQAC Co-ordinator, Dr. B.S. Patil. Technical assistance for the webinar was provided by the Systems Administrator, Mr. Alind Naik.
