SPORTS REPORT

The academic year began on a slow note due to the pandemic. On 4th January 2021, when college reopened, the gym was opened up to the teaching, non-teaching staff and students. Many students regularly attended the gym for fitness purposes. Asst. Prof. Ashwini Naik joined the gym for weight loss and she took up the challenge to be a powerlifter. Under the able guidance of the Gym Instructor Mr. Lavu Govekar, she participated in a State Level Powerlifting competition on 7th February 2021 at Quepem. Ms. Ciya Faldesai, Student of fourth year BALLB represented the Senior Women’s Goa Team for the BCCI senior Women’s Tournament at Jaipur from 3rd March to 23rd March. 1st State intercollege Futsal tournament 2021 was organised by Goa Football Association in collaboration with MES College of Arts and Science, Vasco and S. S. Dhempo College of Commerce and Economics. For this event 20 students were selected and trained. This event was cancelled due to Covid restrictions.

The Sports Department of V.M. Salgaocar College of Law organised a Badminton tournament for the teaching and non-teaching staff on 26th and 27th March 2021. Asst. Prof. Jyothi Kiran won the women’s Singles tournament whereas Asst. Prof. Priyanka Parab was the runner up. Dr. BS Patil won the Men’s Singles tournament whereas Dr. MRK Prasad was the runner up. Mixed Doubles were held on 27th March where Anant Mandrekar and Asst. Prof. Priyanka Parab emerged victorious whereas Dr. MRK Prasad and Asst. Prof. Ashwini Naik were the runners up.

Vaishnavi. S from FY.BA.LLB has participated and secured consolation prize in the All Goa Inter-collegiate Elocution Competition on 20th March 2021 organised by Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, Goa on the topic “Indian Women in the Face of World Feminism”. She has won a cash prize of Rs. 1000/- and a certificate. Siddhant Shetye and Sachin Panicker secured the 1st place in the 9th Edition of ‘Adv. Arun Singbal Memorial State level Inter-Collegiate Quiz Competition 2021’ organised by Konkani Bhasha Mandal and Dhempe College of Arts & Science.
